We spent 13 years building an abundant fruit forest, annual veggie beds, perennial medicinal herbs, and a healthy mixed hardwood-coniferous forest and now we've sold our property to the next stewards so that we can begin a new homesteading project in Vermont closer to our best friends and their kids.
Don't worry - we plan to keep this website up and running so that our customers can reference what we've written about our plants!
We'll let you know once we re-start a farm in Vermont!
Aronia is a beautiful deciduous shrub with bright red and orange fall foliage. Aronia berries are very nutritious and full of vitamins and anti-oxidants. They are the most popular flavor of juice and ice cream in Poland and have become more popular in the U.S. in recent years. The plants are very hardy and easy to grow, a great hedge plant too. Clusters of berries ripen in late summer or early fall. Our favorite preservation method is making aronia applesauce which turns a beautiful pink color and gives the apples a kick. Shrubs can grow up to 15 feet or more but so well with pruning to a lower height for easy picking. If you do not like the fruit, the birds will love it!
